Southern Railway N Class

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Southern Railway (SR) N Class were 2-6-0 (mogul) steam locomotives designed by Richard Maunsell for mixed-traffic. The first 65 were built with the standard right hand drive.

These locomotives were introduced by the South Eastern and Chatham Railway in 1917. A three-cylinder version, N1 Class, was introduced in 1922.

Both classes were taken over by the Southern Railway in 1923 and by British Railways in 1948. Their BR numbers were 31400-31880.
