South Spur Rail Services
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
South Spur Rail Services (SSRS) is a Western Australian owned railroad company providing a cost effective alternative for terminal operations and short haul rail services to the rail transport industry. It is a family owned and operated business whose shareholders come from a Westrail background.
South Spur Rail have a number of contracts for hauling ballast, rail and sleeper trains. In Perth, South Spur also provide hook-and-pull services for the Pacific National SeaTrain service between Kewdale Freight Terminal and Fremantle Port. In the construction of the Perth to Mandurah railway SSR diesels have hauled track and sleepers over the Mount Henry Bridge as far as South Perth.
They also operate a Restaurant Train service called the Spirit of the West, using Australian Railway Historical Society coaches, under an offshoot company called the Midland Railway Company. This is an appropriation of the name of the former Midland Railway Company that was the Midland-Junction to Walkway (near Geraldton) railway line operator.
In early 2006 SSRS won the operating rights of Silverton Rail.
