South Prairie is a town in Pierce County, Washington, United States. The population was 382 at the 2000 census.

South Prairie is located at 47°8′18″N, 122°5′49″W (47.138402, -122.096848)GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.1 km² (0.4 mi²), all land.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 382 people, 125 households, and 98 families residing in the town. The population density was 359.7/km² (938.3/mi²). There were 138 housing units at an average density of 130.0/km² (339.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 93.98% White, 1.05% African American, 2.09% Native American, 1.31% Asian, and 1.57% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.79% of the population.

There were 125 households out of which 44.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.0% were married couples living together, 4.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 20.8% were non-families. 12.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 3.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.06 and the average family size was 3.40.

In the town the population was spread out with 33.0% under the age of 18, 4.7% from 18 to 24, 38.5% from 25 to 44, 16.8% from 45 to 64, and 7.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 108.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.0 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $50,250, and the median income for a family was $56,250. Males had a median income of $47,589 versus $37,250 for females. The per capita income for the town was $19,345. About 1.8% of families and 5.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 4.5% of those under age 18 and 13.0% of those age 65 or over.
