[edit] Location

The school is located on top of a large hill in Diamond Bar. The land was given to the school district by the overseer of a building project of homes at that large hill. The original intention was to have the school at or near the bottom of the large hill, but by mistake allocated the wrong location to the school. The overseer filed a lawsuit against the district, but the district filed one back. The WVUSD won and was paid a large settlement that they used to fund the building, maintenance, etc of the school.

[edit] Honors program

In the school year, 2006 - 2007 a new honors program has been started. This program allows recommended students to take a higher-thinking level class. Most of the students in 8th grade who pass with an A or B in an honors class are usually automatically recommended for the high school honors program.

[edit] Band program

South Pointe has a band and a wind ensemble that is widely recognized. The band director is Steve Acciani. Most of the students at South Pointe are involved with the band program in some way. The South Pointe Wind Ensemble has traveled to many places both within the United States and out, including Carnegie Hall and the Harrowgate Festival in England. In the 2005 - 2006 school year, the Wind Ensemble was supposedly going on a tour in England and Paris but was cancelled due to fear of terrorist attacks in foreign countries. Mr. Acciani has informed the students that they will be traveling to Chicago, US during the 2006-2007 school year as their yearly trip over the spring break.

In the school year 2006-2007, 50 students made the CBDA All-State Honor Band/Symphonic Band. Also, more than 40 students made it to the SCSBOA All-Southern Honor Band/Full Orchestra. Usually, only about 3 or 4 make it from each school.

[edit] Choir program

South Pointe has a choir program that is recognized throughout California. The Choir Director is Robin Wadsworth. The 8th grade choir will perform in San Fransico during the 2006-2007 academic year.

South Pointe's school colors are currently blue and black with a black panther as its mascot. The school strict dress code limits of collared shirts in the colors of black, white, grey, and burgundy, pants and shorts in black and khaki, and skirts and skorts in black, khaki, burgundy/white plaid, and black/white plaid. Also, P.E. uniforms are either a blue t-shirt with a mascot on it on the front or a black t-shirt with the insignia on the front of a butt. The black t-shirt was given to 2005-2006 students who showed excellent times on the mile. The P.E. shorts are black with the school insignia on the front.

In the past, the school colors were red and black. When the current school buildings were completed, the colors were changed to the current blue and black.
