South Oxhey

South Oxhey is a place in the Three Rivers district of Hertfordshire, England. It is located at grid reference TQ115925 and forms part of the Watford post town. It is the location of Oxhey Woods.
South Oxhey is now a large council estate. It was built in the 1940's for the over spill of war torn (World War 2) London. South Oxhey (when built) was originaly LCC (London County Council) then became GLC (Greater London Council).
The Londoners were feared when they moved into the South Oxhey Estate and were resented by Watford, Carpenders Park and surrounding areas. This 'nasty' reputation persists to this day.
A book A giant on our doorstep author Rose Wright tells a brief history of South Oxhey. Rose Wright also author of Goodnight Children Everywhere, writes of life as a 6-13 year old during the war. Living in Islington, watching her house get bombed, her friends dying, rations and community. Also being left for dead herself, when her own house was hit by a bomb.
