South Ossett
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The town of Ossett is, following a recent reorganisation, divided into two parishes. The north is known as Ossett and Gawthorpe and the South as South Ossett. This is located just north of Horbury with the main road of Storrs Hill Road. It is historically the least industrialised part of the town. Much of the new building that has caused Ossett to grow has been concentrated in the South Ossett area.
About 25% of Ossett's population is within the South Ossett area.
Two schools are located on Storrs Hill Road: Ossett Comprehensive High School and St. Ignatius Catholic Primary School. The former is Ossett's only remainining high school. Previously there was a North Ossett School and the current Ossett school was known as South Ossett school. This is also where you will find St. Ignatius Catholic Church and Parish Centre. This Parish Centre is also the place where most people from South Ossett come to cast their vote each year.
South Ossett is located next to the countryside and is part of the Normanton constituency and "Horbury and South Ossett" ward for elections.
