South Norwood Library is a Public Library in South Norwood, South London. It stands in the London Borough of Croydon and is part of the Croydon Libraries [1] arm of the council. It's next to the High street on Selhurst Road / Lawrence Road it's also located next to South Norwood Recreation Ground. At the entrance of the library there is a stand for Croydon Guardian newspapers for free. The library, like many other Croydon Libraries, are based on more than one floor. Croydon has said that it would like to redo it's libraries so they could all be disabled accesiable on just one floor, like it has recentley done with Ashburton Library but it has proved to costworthy.

The library is based on 5 floors, a basement, ground floor, first floor, second floor and a third floor. The basement includes computers for use although unlike internet cafés it's totally free. The ground floor is the reception and the only entrance into the building. The second floor is a childrens library. There is a lift to all 5 floors.

Services available at South Norwood Library include Books, CDs, DVDs and videos for reference and loan at the reception area. There's a Children's library on the third floor.

The opening hours of the library vary a little but are usually like this:

  • Mondays 9.00 - 6.00
  • Tuesday 9.00 - 6.00
  • Wednesday 9.30 - 6.00
  • Thursday the library is not open
  • Friday 9.00 - 7.00
  • Saturday 9.00 - 5.00
  • Sunday the library is not open

They run the following free drop-in events for young children during school term times.

  • Bookstart Rhymetime: Fridays 2 – 2.30pm (babies and toddlers)
  • Wiggle and Jiggle: Fridays 2.30 – 3pm (18 months onwards)

They also provide community adult reading groups which meet on the first or second Saturday of the month at 10.30am
