In 2006, the voters of Jackson County approved bond measure 15-73 to give the 549C district $189 million in order to repair or replace all of its school. Currently in the planning phase, South is slated to be relocated in a new building in about 5 years. The old building would be used to house elementary school students while their schools underwent repairs.

South Medford High School participates in the Channel One News program. This program is essentially an exchange of electronical equipment for TV air-time at the school, in which their program is shown. In the 2006-2007 school year, due to Channel One compliance issues, the administration has scheduled the ten minute block beginning periods 1 and 2 for Channel One. The teachers of periods 1 and 2 may elect to use this time to extend their lessons.

Starting in the school year of 2006-2007, South Medford will begin the SSI with the "Freshman Academy," following it with the other programs in 2007-2008.
