South Hylton is a village in Sunderland on the banks of the River Wear.

A small village, South Hylton only has one access road, and is a terminus for the Tyne and Wear Metro. There are three public houses, The Hycroft (formerly 'The Railway' and known locally as the Top House), The Jolly Potter and The Golden Lion. The British Legion Club closed in early 2005 leaving South Hylton Workingman's Club (CIU) as the only remaining club.

Other businesses in the village include a newsagent, a Post Office, a pharmacy, a pie shop, a Chinese takeaway, a pizza takeaway, two hair salons, a sandwich shop and two general dealers.

South Hylton has a long and interesting history, which is well documented and researched by the South Hylton Local History Society, who regularly hold meetings in the South Hylton Community Centre.
