[edit] Current Status

South County is designated to serve grades 7-12, similar to its sister school Hayfield from which many of its students were drawn. In order to prevent disruption in students' senior years, 2005-06 seniors were allowed to remain at Hayfield to finish their secondary education and maintain continuity during the college application process. South County will remain a secondary school until a new middle school is built to take away its 7th and 8th graders, at which point it will become a regular high school.

South County's Principal, Dale Rumberger, recently won the best principal's award and was noted in the Washington Post.[citation needed]
