South China Mall

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

South China Mall, in Dongguan, China is the largest mall in the world. It has leasable space for over 1,500 stores in approximately 6.5 million square-feet (600,000 square metres) of total floor area.

This mall has seven zones modeled on these international cities, nations and regions: Amsterdam, Paris, Rome, Venice, Egypt, the Caribbean, and California. Also there is a large karoake bar which includes many prostutites and a large brothel area.

Although the mall opened two years ago (2005), it still suffers from lack of retailers. Much of the retail space remains empty. Many analysts say that the main reason the mall isn't picking the pace, as of yet, is that it is located in the suburbs of Dongguan, which means that it is only practical to travel there using a car. For now, Chinese shoppers still prefer downtown shopping areas to suburban malls.[citation needed]

[edit] Parking

Although South China Mall is the world's largest mall, its parking area isn't as big as the West Edmonton Mall's 20,000-parking slot capacity. The mall only provides 10,000 car parking slots for its customers. It still has a very big parking lot, though, to park cars, buses, and baby strollers (babies not included).
