South Branch River Road
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
South Branch River Road is Hampshire County, West Virginia's state Secondary Route (County Route) 8. South Branch River Road (or referred to simply as River Road) runs south from the Northwestern Turnpike (U.S. Route 50) at Romney's Town Hill parallel to the eastern bank of the South Branch Potomac River. The road ends at the Hardy County line where it becomes Trough Road.
River Road passes by many of Hampshire County's most historic homes and sites located on the original tracts of Thomas Fairfax, 6th Lord Fairfax of Cameron land grants along the South Branch. "Breakneck", a scenic overlook on the cliffs overlooking the South Branch is also located along this route. River Road passes through the community of Glebe at the northern entrance of the Trough where Sawmill Ridge separates the road from the South Branch.
