South Bend is a city in Pacific County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,807 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Pacific CountyGR6.

South Bend was officially incorporated on September 27, 1890. The county seat was relocated from Oysterville to South Bend in 1893. The Pacific County Courthouse is on the National Register of Historic Places.

South Bend is located at 46°39′49″N, 123°48′4″W (46.663477, -123.801176)GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.7 km² (2.2 mi²). 4.7 km² (1.8 mi²) of it is land and 1.0 km² (0.4 mi²) of it (17.35%) is water.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 1,807 people, 702 households, and 471 families residing in the city. The population density was 385.5/km² (999.4/mi²). There were 815 housing units at an average density of 173.9/km² (450.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 83.45% White, 0.17% African American, 3.71% Native American, 4.93% Asian, 0.17% Pacific Islander, 3.76% from other races, and 3.82% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 9.24% of the population.

There were 702 households out of which 29.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.3% were married couples living together, 10.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.9% were non-families. 26.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.02.

In the city the population was spread out with 26.4% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 23.6% from 25 to 44, 24.1% from 45 to 64, and 18.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 94.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.7 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $29,211, and the median income for a family was $35,221. Males had a median income of $35,069 versus $23,906 for females. The per capita income for the city was $14,776. About 12.8% of families and 18.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 25.5% of those under age 18 and 6.5% of those age 65 or over.
