SoundClick

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

SoundClick is a music website. Among SoundClick's features are The First Internet Charts (compiled in various genres from streamed plays and hot votes), message boards (including forums for artists to get their music reviewed), promotional tools, and ecommerce for digital singles and albums, in MP3 format.

[edit] History

SoundClick was founded in 1997 during the early days of MP3 file sharing. SoundClick ran a close second to MP3.com in popularity in the early days, and accepted a number of former MP3.com artists when MP3.com closed their doors to independent artists.

Unlike Napster or Kazaa, only original underground songs that are posted by indie bands are allowed on the site: exceptions include authorized remixes of popular songs, which tend to top the Soundclick charts. Recently, Soundclick has been cracking down on unauthorized cover versions, although many people still post unauthorized covers. A disturbing trend is people uploading the *original* versions of songs and passing them off as their own; such a practice leads to account deletion and/or permanent banning by administrators.

In 2007 they launched their new and improved "community" which is similar to the popular friend site MySpace. With the new community at SoundClick you can now network with friends, add photos, music, videos, and even create a radio station and play your favorite SoundClick artist for the whole world to hear.
