Prestige classes

The Soulborn is a role playing class from Dungeons & Dragons and was first introduced in the Magic of Incarnum supplement.

Like the Incarnate, the main feature of Soulborns are their ability to utilize magic items called "soulmelds" that meldshapers create from soulstuff, known as Incarnum, from the souls of creatures alive, dead or yet to be born.

The Soulborn share many common soulmelds with both the Incarnate and the Totemist. However, it has a few unique ones like Mauling Gauntlets and thunderstep boots. These soulmelds generally boost 2-3 skills and provide enhancements based on the location that the soulmeld is worn as well as the amount of essentia invested in them.

Also like the Incarnate, the Soulborn has alignment restrictions. They can only be Chaotic Evil, Chaotic Good, Lawful Evil, or Lawful Good.

Only the Azurins have Soulborn as a favorite class.

[edit] Class Features

Meldshaping: Like Incarnates and Totemists, Soulborns can use soulmelds, but on a much more limited basis.

Smite: Soulborns can smite beings opposed to either their alignment axis for additional damage and a bonus on the attack.

Incarnum Radiance: Soulborns becomes immune to some form of special attack as dictated by their alignment. For example, Lawful Good Soulborns becomes immune to fear affects. At higher levels, they can affect all of their allies with this protection.
