Soul Train Music Awards

The Soul Train Music Awards is an annual award show aired in national syndication that honors the best in Black music and entertainment. It features musical performances by various R & B and hip hop music recording artists, as well as special award honorees. The show is held at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, California.

Soul Train Music Awards voting body includes active professionals in the fields of radio station programming, retail sales and management and recording artists with records that reach one or more music trade publication charts during the past one year eligibility period.

In the past the show has had such famed R&B hosts as Luther Vandross, Patti LaBelle, Will Smith, Vanessa Williams, and Gladys Knight.

Janet Jackson holds the record for the most Soul Train Awards won, followed by her brother Michael Jackson and R&B/Pop singer Whitney Houston.[citation needed]The Soul Train Music Award trophy is an African ceremonial head of some musical meaning since introduced and the award is given in 1987[citation needed].
