Sota Higurashi (日暮草太 Higurashi Sōta, also romanized as Souta) is a character in the manga and anime series InuYasha.
Sota is the younger brother of Kagome, and is a third grade student (approximately seven or eight years of age). He is jealous of her adventures in the Sengoku Jidai, but Kagome claims it is too dangerous for him to accompany her. He once tried to go through the well with no success. Even so, Sota helps Kagome keep up with her studies, reminding her of tests, gathering notes from her classmates and even speaking to her teachers for her.
Sota sees InuYasha as an elder brother, and loves spending time with InuYasha while he is in the modern era. Sota even calls Inuyasha "Inu onii-chan" (犬の兄ちゃん, dog brother). When Kagome comes back to the modern era after fighting with InuYasha, Sota often tries to help them reconcile. In the anime, Inuyasha tries being a mentor to Sota by giving him advice on how to ask Hitomi out.
