Sorro

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sorro is a traditional ceremonial sport in Niger. The sport is played by two opponents who take it in turns to whip each other. The main rule is that every blow you strike will be returned. The goal of the game is to prove your courage by not showing any pain. Banned because of its violence, the practice was recently reintroduced as it is a strong tradition that marks the passage into manhood.
