From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sorrento Lactalis is one of the largest cheese companies in America.

The business was founded as Sorrento Cheese Company in 1947 in Buffalo, New York by Louis Russo, an immigrant from Sorrento, Italy. The company was acquired by the French company Groupe Lactalis in 1992. Now a subsidiary of Lactalis, the company still has its headquarters in Buffalo. Sorrento's sister company, Lactalis U.S.A., is headquartered in New York City.

Sorrento manufactures mozzarella, ricotta, provolone, and other Italian-style cheeses at plants in California, Idaho, and New York and sells them to retailers and food service companies. Its retail brand names are Président, Sorrento and Precious.

Estimated annual sales total $177.3 million. The company has about 600 employees.[1]

Sorrento is a corporate sponsor of Italian street festivals in several cities around the United States.
