Organización Soriana is a grocery store chains company with 100% Mexican capital that is headquartered in Monterrey, Nuevo León.
Soriana was founded in 1968 by a Spanish entrepreneurs and brothers, Francisco and Armando Martín Borque, in Torreon, Mexico. Currently operates under the brands Clubes City Club, Hipermart, Mercado Soriana and Soriana. It operates supermarkets and departmental stores for consumer and wholesale markets. It is listed under the Bolsa Mexicana de Valores since 1987 (BMV: SORIANA).
Soriana competes primarily with H-E-B, Supermercados Gigante and Walmex, touting the fact that they are Mexican-owned and operated. It is not uncommon to see receipts from Wal-Mart, Bodega Aurrera and/or H-E-B pasted around the store with certain items highlighted, pointing out the fact that said items are cheaper at Soriana.
As of December 2006 it had 204 stores in 85 cities and 29 states of Mexico and six distribution centers. In 2006, for reporting and administrative purposes, Soriana moved its headquarters from Torreon to Monterrey.
