[edit] Objection!
The Christianity section of this article quotes a number of saints arguing that pagan traditions prior to Christianity contained elements of Christian truth, or in some way pointed toward the fullness of the Christian revelation. However, this does not mean, and the quoted saints are not saying, that all religions are essentially the same or contain the same truths. (St. Augustine, who is quoted, would have been the last to say that. He argued vehemently against various Gnostic heresies.) This ought to be noted. In the Christian understanding, other religions represent man's search for God. But Christianity is God coming down to meet man and reveal the truth. So let us not confuse these quotes with some form of relativism. --Hyphen5 10:06, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
