I added a stub-tag and an external link to this page, and a couple of wikilinks. I'm not sure if the stubtag i chose is the perfect one -- please consider if a better one should be used. Also, Some of the text seems to be taken pretty directly from the organization's official web site. i didn't flag this as a copyvio, but it might be a good idea to reword a bit. DES (talk) 04:44, 19 September 2005 (UTC)

Not copyvio because it's an anarchistic organization. They believe in taking information freely.--Sonjaaa 09:30, 19 September 2005 (UTC)

That is all very well, but have they explicitly put this info into the public domain, or released it under the GFDL? Those are wikipedia's normal requirements. DES (talk) 10:45, 19 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Chess Photos

There is a photo gallery of chess players from the 2002 and 2003 U.S. Chess Championships on my user page:

User:JFPerry/images/Chess

So far about two dozen images, all CCPL. It will be expanded in due time. I am not working on the Chess Wikiproject, but you might let folks there know of these images. All of them are also included in the "Chess players" category on Wikimedia Commons which has more chess player images.

[edit] Child of Deaf Adult

I'm afraid this is not quite suitable for an encyclopedia entry. It belongs somewhere it could be more easily found. Is there an article on Deaf Culture where you could start a section on terminology? Or perhaps just move this item to the dictionary. Thanks for considering these ideas. BeteNoir 06:03, 2 November 2005 (UTC)

CODA is an important concept in Deaf culture. I believe the article is encyclopedic and will grow well. There is a lot of information to be fleshed out to educate those not familiar with the experience of CODAs.--Sonjaaa 07:24, 2 November 2005 (UTC)

The article originally identified Enza as a "she", I changed it to "he". You changed it back. I think it is important for wikipedia to be factually correct before it is politically correct. [edit] Colour schemes

Sonja - I'm considering listing a group of articles in the Colour schemes category for deletion. The reason for this is that a lot of them appear to simply comprise a very brief and incomplete list of things that happen to have a colour combination. You appear to be the main contributor to the category so I thought I'd do you the curtesy of seeing whether you had any intention of working further on the articles. There are some good articles there such as Tricolour and Green and gold which reference the cultural importance of those symbols, I can't see the encyclopedic value of Black and red for instance - the listing of Albanian flag suggests the page is a list of random things. MLA 10:17, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

Hi there. I undid the move from Extraterrestrial life in culture to Alien (popular culture). [edit] Marijuana Wiki

Hi there,

I see that you are a pro-Cannabis Wikipedian so I hope this will be of some interest to you.

I've started a Marijuana wiki (aka The Sticky Wiki) which I think you might be interested in. I'm hoping you can help me get started with this project. Whereas lots of articles about weed get speedy-deleted on Wikipedia, they would be totally cool over at MarijuanaWiki. But really I want the site to be more of a marijuana community than merely an encyclopedia.

To give you an example, I want to have city guides about where to score, find pot-friendly cafes, marijuana events, and what represents a good price in that city. Etc. (You can check out the featured article: "Toronto" to see what I mean). I also want to have grow diaries and marijuana blogs. All in all, basically more communal than encyclopedic.

I am in need of admins/moderators, and people experienced with MediaWiki to help build policy, categories, and templates, etc. If you'd be interested in helping me with this project, the URL is MarijuanaWiki

Thanks for your time and consideration. Hope to see you there!

[edit] Harmonious Habiliment for Hot Humid Habitats.

Hi Sonjaa, I am posting this here as I thought it was rather verbose for the help desk. I do not know what the "native" theory of what to wear would be, but loincloth and nudity do not necessarily work best. Furthermore, a man's experience may be inappropriate, so I'll get that over with first.

  1. Male: Practically I've found:
    1. I wear something to remove water from the skin surface. This "water on the skin" business has been shown to be a major discomfort factor, and this agrees with my own experience in Africa. A vest of absorbent material (e.g. cotton, microfiber) carries the moisture away from the skin, and saves the overgarment from getting soggy. I use a T-shirt, to try to keep skin-on-skin contact in the axillae to the minimum. If I need to feel or look fresh, as at a meeting, I carry 2 dry vests in my briefcase (with ziplock bags for the wet ones), to change as needed, without having to change a shirt . A light absorbent t-shirt is more comfortable for me than no top at all. So going naked is not the most comfortable, unless I happen to be in brisk airflow.
    2. Absorbent socks, such as what we call "hiking socks", keep my feet dryer than any thin cotton - combined with open sandals, of course. Or no socks can be ok with real leather sandals with leather soles. Otherwise, no socks with synthetic material sandals make my feet uncomfortably sweaty. But then, if I can go barefoot, that is preferred over any kind of foot covering.
    3. Loose flapping clothes, layered, so that air moves around as much as possible - made of an absorbent material. Wool, cotton, microfiber all work well for me. Oversize shirt, loose baggy trousers, and open shoes.
    4. As noted, skin folds (skin-on-skin) is a problem for me, so I wear underwear that fits into the skin folds. I would not wear boxer type underwear.
  2. As far as ladies dress goes, I have the experience of my four sisters to call on, and have today discussed the issue with Adri, one who lived for a while in tropical Africa. She says the right underwear is the secret, because "it's what touches the skin that counts"(?), and most new-comers to the tropics apparently get it wrong. She spoke at length about this aspect, so my writing does not reflect my own interests:). Please excuse if my terminology is wrong, as my descriptions are from what I heard over the phone, and my interpretations may be impractical.
    1. Adri is of the opinion that proper "cover-up" is generally more comfortable than various degrees of nakedness.
    2. Avoid skin-on-skin, i.e. get rid of skin folds or interpose with absorbent material. For this she wore T-shirt type tops (as I do), and she wore a cotton bra which lifted enough to remove the fold under the breasts (her breasts do "hang" somewhat). Later she used to simply wrap her chest in a cotton cloth (sounds like a sort of "chest sarong"), form just below the the sternum, up to the armpits, with nothing around the shoulders (sounds like a bare midriff to me). Apparently she just "squashed her breasts flat" to avoid the skin folds. She avoided tank type tops (those like vests without sleeves), specifically to avoid wet armpits. She says going bra-less is ok in the wind, but more commonly made her feel more sweaty. When she was working at home, she often used to wear just a "sports bra", or "jogging bra" as a top. You'll know what that is. Adri says go bra-less if your breasts don't hang, but keep the T-shirt or cloth wrap.
    3. Full-fit panties, which do not require tight elastic to keep them in place worked best for her. She still avoids any underwear that is not "smooth and seamless". She used to buy the most expensive Jockeys (I have no idea what your equivalent would be), those that are supposed to be "invisible" under tight fitting clothes. No stockings, but if stockings were really necessary, definitely not panty-hose.
    4. Her favourite outer clothes for when days were really humid were saris or a loosefitting shirt and sarong. Once again, she bought only absorbing materials.
    5. She tied or pinned her hair back (her hair is below shoulder length). She'd wear scarf headbands, but only as part of her outfit, if she liked the cloth. Around the house or when she was relaxing she wore sport sweatbands. She used to keep her hair loose over her neck, but that was mainly to prevent sunburn.
    6. She would wear the minimum of jewelry, especially avoiding metal necklaces and bangles. She recommends beadwork without pendants.
    7. Adri feels that the colours of the clothes makes no difference in practice. She chose the pattern and colour combinations which she liked, irrespective of whether they were "dark" or "light".
    8. She suggests you find out if there are Indian (Indian as in Mahatma Ghandi) or Malay communities in your city, and talk to them about their traditional dress. Try to find immigrants or first generation persons who have maintained an interest in their culture - they could give you appropriate advice about where to get the best quality cloth (Here in Africa we usually get the best quality material in small little out of the way shops, sometimes from the seller's house or garage).
    9. Adri has no suggestions regarding the "native" African tropical dress; the native friends she had, had apparently adopted either Western or Asian patterns of dress, since their true "native" dress was considered inappropriate to their status, and to city life.

Well, that's a rather long epistle, but I found the question interesting, and thought I may as well convey the first-hand information that was accessible to me, even if it was but one lady's opinion! There should be more readers from hot humid climates who could help you make your choices, and I hope they do reply to your question. You can e-mail me from my user-page if you wish to. Kind regards, and, of course, Stay Cool, --Seejyb 23:00, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Football/Soccer/Association Football/whatever

Oh *sigh* This is like groundhog day. Sorry Son, you may be aware of it, but this issue has been debated to death. The clear consensus is to have it at Football (soccer). That has been the decision in vote after vote after vote, etc. In the circumstances moving the article is not an option. This is the name judged necessary by an overwhelming consensus, given that much of the world exclusively calls it football, a large part exclusively calls it soccer and calls some other sport football (the Americans call their native game American Football "Football", the Irish call their native game Gaelic Football "football" and at least ten other countries also use the name primarily or exclusively for their native game), a majority understand both terms and only a tiny tiny minority, usually the bureaucrats running the game, call it association football. AF is not an option under the most common name requirement of the Manual of Style. Using either football or soccer in isolation triggers off the mother of edit wars and is unacceptable in large parts of the world. Using both stopped the edit war and got a consensus behind it every time it was voted on. At this stage, the only thing we should be voting on is to ban any more discussion of the damned name of that article for at least a year. lol. That friggin' name has been discussed more than anything else on that talk page, and every time it is voted on, the exact same result is produced. So it is a dead issue right now. [edit] Zinedine should not have an accent

It has been discussed before and the consensus was to leave the accent off. Please read the discussion on the talk page before doing anything as drastic as moving a page.

Read Talk:Zinédine Zidane#Please do not add an accent to Zinedine. This accent does not exist in French. See below for sources. and especially the Talk:Zinédine Zidane#Requested move section.

I suggest you move it back, unless someone else does it first. Canadiana 05:28, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Why does the French article and other languages articles use the accent then? English is the only one omitting it. Even his official website zidane.fr uses the spelling with é and not e. It seems that é is the correct spelling.--Sonjaaa 05:30, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
Actually, I see now that this has recently been discussed on the French article's talk page and the French article was moved to the unaccented version on July 8. Apparently, official documents are inconsistent and, given the choice, a language like English that doesn't normally use accents tends to opt for the hyperforeignism, in a false attempt to appear "correct" (hypercorrection). As for other languages, they're probably copying the incorrect French and English media. One of the French editors says that the name should usually be pronounced Zinèdine, so it's hard to see where the é came from. Canadiana 15:25, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
The incorrect spelling is because of journalists mispronouncing the name. There is no accent in this name as it is of Kabyle origine. Zidane himself has spoken up about this in the French media. The correct spelling is without the accent. The article has been moved back to the correct spelling. Musikfabrik 12:41, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
The correct spelling (by a French Wikipedia user who was also convinced that it was "Zinédine") was confirmed yesterday through the FIFA and French Sports Journalists to be "Zinedine". This was also confirmed by Aimé Jacquet's book which also uses "Zinedine" consistently. Please see this user's page to follow this discussion: [[2]]

I'm wondering if we would consider this subject closed? Musikfabrik 08:14, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Party of God

Will you please stop vandalizing the wikipedia with this? I am a Bible-bashing, conservative-ridiculing leftist myself and even I find no merit or basis in saying the Republican Party is the "Party of God". You have taken that line from the Washington Post article of the same title; that is not the equivalent of the Republican Party referencing themselves with that name. Tarc 00:30, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

This has nothing to do with leftism or Bible hating. I'm a very tolerant woman! And it certainly isn't vandalism, aka "willful or malicious destruction"! In the USA many Republicans have embraced the term "Party of God" for their party, on pins in speeches etc., and I have backed up my edits with references. I think it's important to mention that party, because the United States are a notable country, and it's the party that is also in power right now in the USA. Why did you delete my contributions? --Sonjaaa 00:49, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

Because what you are claiming is factually incorrect. Tarc 14:06, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
Can you be more clear? What part was incorrect?--Sonjaaa 15:36, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
Um, the part where you claim that the Republican Party of the United States uses "Party of God" to reference itself? Tarc 21:19, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Monotesticular people

Can you source this? Even if you can, do you think "monotesticular people" deserve a category? --Abu Badali 18:32, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

I'm sorry for not noticing that on the article. Mea Culpa. But do you still plan do build that category? --Abu Badali 18:44, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
Please see Adolf Hitler's medical health for why AH should not be in this category. DJ Clayworth 21:38, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks :-)

Hi,

I followed the 'Personality test' link from your website and I was astonised by its level of accuracy :-) It helped me to "spell out" a couple of things which I already knew about myself but was fairly unable to express. Thanks! —Gennaro Prota•Talk 02:44, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Simboloj ktp.

Mi ĝojas ke vi amas miajn lunajn simbolojn.

DenisMoskowitz 22:40, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Love the black squirrel

That is very cool. Do you see him/her often? Around your house? Or was this a once-in-a-lifetime thing? If it was the latter, good thing you had your camera! Cheers. °·°·°·°·° UncleFester 05:55, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

There are hundreds of them in my neighbourhood... they're everywhere! Totally normal sighting in Toronto. But whenever Americans come up here, they get all surprised, because apparently it's unusual.--Sonjaaa 14:11, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Whaling in Iceland

Can I suggest you wait on creating this article until you have home more information. Quote some press reports, say what convention they would be going against if they did so, explan more. As it stands the article says nothing and will almost certainly be deleted. You might also like to rethink the title. Very little whaling has ever happened in Iceland - quite a lot more around it, and more still has been done by Icelanders. DJ Clayworth 23:30, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

What do you mean? Iceland has a long tradition of subsistence whaling!--Sonjaaa 23:31, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

Sonyaaa, thanks for creating this article. I see no reason why it should be deleted. The article has just been created, it is a work in progress. The title is consistent with "Whaling in Japan" and "Whaling in Faroe Islands". Perhaps they all should be renamed to "Japanese whaling" etc. Matt77 00:53, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Quebec cinema

Hi Sonjaaa, lately Project Films is expanding a series of artilces "Cinema of (Country)". I came across your move of Cinema of Quebec to Quebec cinema. You did mention in the edit history that the former is used "much less frequently". Since we are standardising all world cinema articles, I wanted to ask you if it would be a serious mistake to move it back. Please, post your opinion in my talk page or directly in Project Films talk. Thanks. Hoverfish 14:24, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Galliamova.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Galliamova.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stan 03:19, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] BrainKeeper

In answer to your query at Talk:BrainKeeper, the article was deleted for being non-notable and permanently protected due to the contributor repeatedly re-creating it. -- ChrisO 21:06, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Angry Nintendo Nerd/Angry Video Game Nerd/Angry NES Nerd

This article was deleted after comunity debate. You can read the debate at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Angry Nintendo Nerd. There have been several attempts since to resurrect it none sucessful. No-one has yet come up with any evidence that the ANN is notabl per our guidelines at WP:BIO. Constantly claiming (without evidence) that he is wildly popular is not convincing since it is neither a verifiable claim nor does it meet the criteria laid out at WP:BIO. [edit] Editors that don't provide an edit summary tend to look like vandals

I have noticed you commonly don't enter an edit summary as you didn't when you edited Long Point (see this edit). This causes me problems. When I patrol for vandalism, I use the summary to make a preliminary decision on whether or not the post is a vandal edit or not. If the summary is present (or at least a section header, the part inside the /* */), I commonly decide the edit is legit and move on.

However, if no edit summary is available, I typically resort to loading the diff for the edit. This takes time. For that reason, if your edits are all valid, I ask that you provide edit summaries. For more on how to enter an edit summary, please read Help:Edit summary.

Incidentally, it is not just me that appreciate having edit summaries. When you omit your summary, you may be telling various bots that you are vandalizing pages. For this reason, please consider providing that summary. It is very important. You can enter that summary via the edit summary box on edit pages (as shown below).

Image:Edit Summary-2.png

The edit summary appears in black italics in the following places: * Use the enhanced watchlist to see all recent changes in the watched pages, not just the last change in each page.

[edit] Copy and paste moving

Hello, Sonjaaa. It appears that you copied and pasted Mrs. Garrison to Herbert Garrison. Please do not move articles by copying and pasting them because it splits the article's history, which is needed for attribution and is helpful in many other ways. If there is an article that you cannot move yourself using the move link at the top of the page, follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Requested moves. Also, if there are any other articles that you copied and pasted, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen.
