Sonya Gomez is a Starfleet engineer on the television show Star Trek: The Next Generation. The character was played by Lycia Naff.
Her first appearance was in the episode "Q Who?", as an ensign freshly graduated from Starfleet Academy, and serving under Lieutenant Geordi La Forge. She began her day by ordering a cup of hot chocolate, which La Forge told her was too dangerous to carry around in a place containing lots of sensitive electronic equipment. On her way to take the cup out of engineering, Gomez accidentally spilled its contents on both herself and Captain Jean-Luc Picard.
Her second (and last) appearance was in the episode "Samaritan Snare". In this episode, Gomez assisted the return of Lieutenant Geordi La Forge from being held hostage by the simple-minded, yet persistent Pakleds.
In the S.C.E. novels, Gomez has been promoted to the rank of Commander, and is serving as first officer and chief of S.C.E. on the ship USS Da Vinci under Captain David Gold. She has still not managed to forget the famous "hot chocolate incident".
She also made an appearance in the series comic book.
