Clarence Smith (born November 3, 1940), better known as Sonny Rhodes, is a blues singer and guitar player. He was born November 3, 1940 in Smithville, Texas to Leroy and Julia Smith. He received his first guitar at the age of eight as a Christmas present and really became serious about the blues at age 12. So, instead of working in the cotton fields for 50 cents a day, Sonny went and played on a street corner like his blind uncle did. He credits his uncle as his source of inspiration. He went on recording singles and eventually founded his own record company called Cigarette Blues. He may be best known for recording the theme song for the Firefly television series, "The Ballad of Serenity", which was written by the series' creator, Joss Whedon.
