Sonny Mayo is a guitarist for Sevendust, and formerly of Snot. After Snot disbanded in 1998, he joined Amen, as well as contributed all guitar parts to the Vanilla Ice album Hard to Swallow the same year. In 2003, he replaced Chad Benekos in (hed)p.e. for the touring in support of the album "Blackout". In February 2005 he left to join Sevendust after Clint Lowery left for Dark New Day. In October 2005, Sevendust released Next, their first studio album since Sonny joined the band. Mayo continues to write, record and perform with the band through 2006.
Before Snot, Sonny played in a DC Area (Virginia) band called MF Pitbulls (an earlier incarnation of Snot with Shannon Larkin on vocals). Prior to that, and for a good number of years, Sonny was in a local thrash band called Silence. Silence (John Mayes, Benjamin Gaither, Louie Denslow, Jason Robinson and Sonny), regularly sold out venues in the DC Metro area including the famous "Bayou" in Georgetown. While with Silence, he released a nine track CD, and recorded a 3 song tape with Alex Perialas. One of the songs from the tape, "One Race" was made into a black and white video filmed at the Bayou.
