Sonia Leong

Sonia Leong (born May 7, 1982) is a freelance Manga artist, illustrator, & member of Sweatdrop Studios, who took 2nd place in the first Rising Stars of Manga United kingdom & Ireland Competition.

Leong was born in Malaysia and lived in Thailand between 1989 till 2000 . She then attended Warwick University, Economics and Politics BSc(Hons) from 2000 to 2003, and currently resides in Cambridge, UK, and is in regular attendance of UK anime conventions, representing Sweatdrop Studios.

Past activities include classical singer/soloist, rock band vocals, Shakespearean roles & President of the Warwick University Fencing Club.

Within Sweatdrop, her titles include 'Once Upon a Time' and 'Cyborg Butterfly'. 'Murder on the Dancefloor' was her contribution to Sweatdrop's first perfect bound anthology, 'Sugardrops' (2004).

Her other competition achievements include Winner in NEO Magazine's 2005 Manga Competition and being Joint Judge for the Character Design category of the International Manga and Anime Festival (IMAF)[1]. Her work is appearing an upcoming British movie, Popcorn, directed by Darren Paul Fisher, starring Jack Ryder (EastEnders) and Jodie Albert (Hollyoaks).

Leong has also contributed to a recent Wacom campaign which has appeared in major german magazines such as Animania which used her official art to promote the wildly successful 'Pimp My Character' contest featured in the German publication Animania[2] her work also featured on the Wacom website[3] in an article promoting the use of Wacom in the creation of manga. She is also one of the Head Contributors to Draw Manga Sweatdrop Studios form New Holland Publishers (UK) Ltd[4], has participated in the conceptual art and design of the Collectable card game Herocard Cyberspace from Tablestar Games[5] & has recently worked on an adaptation of William Shakespeare's 'Romeo & Juliet' for Self Made Hero[6].
