Sonia Ahmed is a Pakistani promoter of beauty pageants. President of Miss Canada Pakistan Inc. and Miss Pakistan World, she was a prime mover of Pakistan's beauty pageant industry. She started her company in 2002 in the capital of Canada, Ottawa with the aim of creating the first beauty queen in Pakistan, since beauty pageants were unheard of in Pakistan.
The first Miss Canada Pakistan was crowned in 2003, and then after three years Ahmed removed the focus on Canadian Pakistanis and re-established a new pageant for Pakistani girls to enter from all over the world. Miss Pakistan World was born in 2005, and in 2006, Sehr Mahmood, from Boston, USA was crowned Miss Pakistan World 2006.
In 2006, Pakistan participated in the first Miss Bikini Universe Pageant. Mariyah Moten who had successfully finished her participation as Miss Pakistan Tourism 2006, took the bold step of representing Pakistan. Mariyah had previously won the title of Miss Charity in the Miss Tourism Queen International 2006 pageant.
Sonya Zia, became the youngest Miss Pakistan to participate in the World Miss University 2006 pageant in Korea. Sehr Mahmood the winner of Miss Pakistan World 2006 participated in the Miss Earth 2006 pageant, as well as Queen of the World 2006 where she won Queen of Elegance title. Shaifa Chandani, became the first Miss Internet Pakistan 2006. All this took place in the year 2006, which proved to be a massive year for all Pakistani Beauty Queens. A total of five international titles were achieved from 2003 till 2006, just in a span of 3 years. This was a great achievement for the Miss Pakistan World company.
Sonia has been successful in changing the mentality of Canadian Pakistanis, USA Pakistanis and eventually UK based Pakistanis with regard to women.
Today Pakistan has taken part in several international pageants including Miss Earth, Miss Bikini Universe, Queen of the World, Miss Internet WWW, World Miss University and Miss Tourism Queen International.
