[[Song of the Birds]]

This article relates to a cd album recorded in aid of the organisation BOVA - Bosco Volunteer Action www.salesianyouthministry.com/bova.html Background

The theme of the album is inspired by the story of PABLO CASALS who made the Catalonian folk song Song of the Birds famous during the time of Franco, Pablo was exiled to England and played this song as a defiant message to Franco.

Influences

This album is a collection of songs written and performed by Yorkshire born Adam Ditchburn. The songs are modern folk and he has drawn upon his influences such as Bob Dylan and Alanis Morissette who actually both get a mention on the first track.

Writing and Lyric

The album is one which focuses on the importance of clever words and nothing that is said on the album actually means exaclty what it says, it is all very suggestive and comparative. Adam Ditchburn gets very frustrated that songwriters today either say very little in their songs about the current world or they say it too obviously therefore losing the art of songwriting. He feels that songwriting should be about expressing anger, happiness and all emotions but it should be done cleverly and in a poetic manor.

Recording

The recording was completed in just 7 hours in New Barnet, London and is 100% live. It includes guitar, cello, flute, saxahopne and piano as well a guest vocalist, up and coming jazz singer Sharon Pitt. Sharon also plays sax on the album. The guitar is played usually by Adam Ditchburn but also by Bro Marco Villani on three tracks. Marco also playes flute on the opening track The cellist and pianist is the talented young classical musician Harriet Jeffery who studied at the Royal College of Music.
