Sonal Mansingh

Sonal Mansingh (b. 1944, Mumbai) is an eminent Indian dancer of Odissi dancing style; and is also proficient in other dancing styles including Bharatnatyam , Kuchipudi, and Chhau.

Her dancing career has brought her many awards, including the Padma Bhushan (1992), which is among the highest civilian awards of the Republic of India.

In recognition of her total and life-long commitment to dance and for her singular contribution to enriching the lives of millions in India, she was honoured with Padma Bhushan in 1992 by the then President of India and again with Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian honour, by the President of India in 2003. With this Sonal Mansingh becomes the first woman dancer in independent India to receive this high honour.
