Son of Spirit
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Son Of Spirit was the second album that Spirit would release through Mercury Records. It was released in October of 1975, following the minor success of their previous album. Unlike Spirit Of '76, however, it would not make the national charts.
Though some of the album's tracks were from the same sessions that produced Spirit Of '76, it also features several Randy California solo demos which have been augmented by a rhythm machine. The juxtaposition gives the album an odd feeling that keeps it from sounding too close to its predecessor. Though isn't a well-regarded album amongst many fans, it does feature some of Randy's best songs (including two that were originally recorded for Potato Land), though some people like it because of its earnest nature.
It was originally reissued on CD in the early 90s, though it was remastered and reissued (in a twofer which also included Farther Along) in 2004 by Beat Goes On.
