"Something I Learned Today" is a song by the Alternative rock/Punk rock band Hüsker Dü. It is the opening song on their landmark 1984 double album, Zen Arcade.

[edit] Meaning and style

The song was written by guitarist Bob Mould and is simply about growing up and not trusting many people. This fast-paced song, with simple verse and chord progessions, is considered to be one of their most well-known songs. It begins with a simple drum beat, then an undulating bass rhythm, and then it finally kicks into the verse riff. Mould and Hart harmonize vocally in the chorus.

[edit] Trivia

  • According to Zen Arcade's liner notes, "Something I Learned Today" and "Newest Industry" were the album's only songs that were not recorded in one take.
