[edit] About this map image

The uploader did not indicate the source of this image, but I have identified one possible source, from the University of Texas at Austin's Map Collection:

Based on the listing of other maps at the U.T. site, I believe it might be a CIA map, in which case it the image is in the public domain.

However: the map is at least 25 years out-of-date, as Eritrea and Djibouti are not shown as independent countries, and includes a term that has fallen into disfavor. As far as showing the geographic distribution of Somali-speaking peoples, this map might be a better choice. However it is under copyright by the National Maritime Museum, London. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 04:10, 1 September 2005 (UTC)

  • I'm going to assume this is a CIA map, and tag it as such. Elsewhere on the website I found a notice that says "The following maps were produced by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency, unless otherwise indicated." There was no exception indicated for this map. The map number at the bottom seems consistent with other CIA maps. But again, a newer map would be better. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 04:23, 1 September 2005 (UTC)
