[edit] "foreign military presences"

If the troops are foreign, then what nationality are the troop concentrations shown in Mandera, Bale and Boh? - BanyanTree 14:08, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

Troop icons also represent mobilized armies of Kenya and Ethiopia, who have deployed large armies at their primary points of entry into Somalia recently. Ingoman 22:51, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
So they aren't "foreign" then, as they are in their own country. I will change the description accordingly. - BanyanTree 03:28, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Borders

This is a really useful map but it needs to show a difference between international borders (between Somalia, Ethiopia and Kenya) and internal ones. It took me a while to realise that the map depicts large areas parts of Ethiopia and Kenya as well as Somalia. Since I was confused, I thought Eth. and Ken. had actually invaded large parts of Somalia. Showing international borders in a different colour would solve this. The thing to keep in mind here is this is East Africa, and international borders are not patrolled, barely recognized and largely ignored by the nomads and truckers who freely cross over all five Somali countries and back again. Most Somali's don't own passports and they wouldn't be recognized if they did have them. My own position is that it is more useful to have a map of the political situation of the Somali "land" (the districts where they make up more than 90% of the population) as there is a definitive possibility of the current conflict spilling over into these neighboring areas. [edit] Sakow

has been taken by the Islamists recently, hasn't it? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/6087850.stmNightstallion (?) 16:30, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

I'm going to edit the map later today to include the conquest of Sakow by the ICU, and the JVA's troop withdrawl to Bardheere and ICU advance into the district. I think I'm going to add a few more ICU troop icons in Bur Hakabah, as the ICU has been deploying several thousand troops there recently, and the government troops have all pulled back to Baidoa. Perfect! Keep up the great work, please. :)Nightstallion (?) 12:16, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
