[edit] Album source

Apologies, I do not know specifically which album page you are talking about. However, finding a websource for your information should be easy enough- just search for the album's title, and find a review that contains all the information you have included. Perhaps a better option would be to check to see if the artist's website, or the record label's website, have a page on the album that covers all of the information. J Milburn 16:20, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

I have asked around. There is nothing wrong with you citing the album booklet or case as the source, and, as you say, it would certainly be reliable. However, some information (for example, the genre, possibly sales and awards, legacy, reviews) wouldn't be included in the album booklet. As far as track listing and personnel go, it is certainly one of the best sources available. I do not really understand your concern about sounding pompous. Speaking from personal experience, I have always managed to find sources for album pages on the web, and I have written a few- it isn't like I am a fan of pop either. Referencing information is one of the most important policies on Wikipedia, and so just a note under a section called 'References' or 'Sources' saying something like * Booklet that came with the album, written by [record label] would improve the article by helping people understand what you are basing the information in the article on. While we are on the subject, there are a lot of resources useful to those writing articles on album at Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by J Milburn (talkcontribs) 20:13, 16 January 2007 (UTC).
I'm sorry, what do you disagree with? There isn't much I have said that is a matter of opinion... J Milburn 22:09, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
Two of Wikipedia's most important principles are Wikipedia:No original research and Wikipedia:Verifiability. Sources are essential for a good article in the eyes of the overwhelming majority of Wikipedia editors. 'Presuming' that as no source is cited, it has come from a specific place is ridiculous- I am massive fan of music, yet I only have two albums. Albums are certainly not the only way to listen to music any more. The majority of new articles created are deleted shortly afterwards for a multitude of reasons- presuming good faith is nice, but not always the way forward. Sources are needed for the encyclopedia- why is it difficult to say where you got your information from? I cannot see how it weakens the encyclopedia to source the information. We are not drawing information from primary sources are drawing our own conclusions, we are drawing information from secondry sources, and providing all conclusions. There is already a rule that I cannot find right now, that removes the need for ridiculously obvious information to be sourced, but, as you said yourself, some of your albums are obscure, and are not covered by that. J Milburn 23:39, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

Don't just take my word for it, I consulted other editors and they reccomended I sent you this tried and tested warning-

Your recent contribution(s) to Wikipedia are very much appreciated. However, you did not provide references or sources for your information. Keeping Wikipedia accurate and verifiable is very important, and as you might be aware there is currently a drive to improve the quality of Wikipedia by encouraging editors to cite the sources they used when adding content. If sources are left unreferenced, it may count as original research, which is not allowed. Can you provide in the article specific references to any books, articles, websites or other reliable sources that will allow people to verify the content in the article? You can use a citation method listed at inline citations that best suits each article. Thanks! J Milburn 23:42, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Sourcing

That was my attempt at a solution. Physical sources are allowed on Wikipedia, although obviously web ones are easier to verify. I was just trying to suggest something that may be more agreeable to you, because Wikipedia needs list more sources for the statements on its pages. Xiner (talk, email) 02:17, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

Info without a source is more likely to be wrong than info with an unreliable source. CD liners are verifiable, just harder. Xiner (talk, email) 02:34, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
To stick my nose where it may not belong for a minute (Xiner's talk page is still on my watchlist): the CD booklet would be best considered a primary source, whereas Wikipedia is a tertiary source and the best sources for us to use are secondary sources. Check out Wikipedia:Reliable sources#Types of source material and Wikipedia:No original research#Primary, secondary, and tertiary sources for details. To the matter of citing something in your possession, it is totally acceptable for some things, notably books or other published media. References need not be from the internet. [edit] License tagging for Image:Garyhughes-onceandfuturekingii1.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Garyhughes-onceandfuturekingii1.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 06:06, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Burning Rain, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (below the existing db tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Wodup 05:22, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] While you are still fairly new...

Hey, I've come to notice that you have originated a phenomenal amount of new album articles to Wikipedia. Excellent! Keep up the good work, and in the meantime, here's an award to recognise your efforts:

The Exceptional Newcomer Award
In recognition of the amount of articles contributed to the WP:ALBUMS project, showing great proficiency in the Art of the Infobox along the way! Well done! Bubba hotep 21:50, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

PS You might have noticed I left a comment about Doug Aldrich on the Talk:Burning Rain (album) page! Bubba hotep 21:50, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

It's great that you are filling those gaps. That's what I started to do when I first came here back in August. I think I've done about 190+ album articles now in the punk/metal/rock genres. Strange thing is, I only thought to join WP:ALBUMS and start joining in on the projects and discussions about a month ago! Look forward to your next batch of articles. :) By the way, I started changing "Personnel" to "Credits" sections on some of yours because that is what the project states it should be (I always used to use "Personnel" to be honest, but then someone came and changed them all over a period of time!) However, it is up to you, I haven't changed any more of them because of the sheer number of articles you have written! Bubba hotep 14:26, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
