Empires is a total conversion modification for Half-Life 2. Game play consists of hybrid FPS/RTS elements. RTS is played out by the commander of either team, in a similar fashion to any ordinary RTS game. The FPS part is played out by the soldiers on the battlefield. The link between the two modes is seamless, with the commander being able to hop in and out of FPS mode at will.

[edit] Development History
Empires began as a mod for Battlefield 1942 and released two public versions before engine limitations forced the mod to move to another engine. Plans were made to move to the Far Cry engine, but ultimately, the Source engine was chosen for the next manifestation of the modification. [1]
[edit] Release History
