Solomon Goffe House
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Samuel Goffe House is located on North Colony Street in Meriden, Connecticut. It was built in 1711, and is the oldest remaining building in the city of Meriden. It is a traditional Connecticut Saltbox house consisting of a wooden frame with a long, pitched roof that slopes down to the back. The flat front and central chimney are recognizable features, but the asymmetry of the unequal sides and the long, low rear roof line are the most distinctive features of a Saltbox. One of the highlights of the landscaping is its traditional herb garden, which was designed after examples of typical 18th century herb gardens in the area.
