Berhe is a native Ethiopian. He grew up in Tigray, in the North of Ethiopia, attending church school. Afterwards, he attended Addis Ababa University obtaining a science degree.
[edit] Career
Solomon Berhe originally worked in the coffee industry. After a period of self imposed exile in Sudan, he returned to work with an Aid company in Addis Ababa. In 1994, he moved into the tourism industry, working for a well known Ethiopian travel agency for a period of eight years before eventually setting up his own Ethiopian tour operator "Solomon Berhe Tours" in 2002.
[edit] Aid work
Being an Ethiopian himself, Solomon has always made an effort to support the local communities and has encouraged those who go on his tours to do the same. As a result Solomon has been involved with several school building projects, helping to provide better equipment in classrooms and water schemes providing more clean water sources for remote communities.

In June 2006 Solomon accompanied BBC journalist Matthew Parris on his journey through the Danakil Depression in Northen Ethiopia, acting as his guide and translator.
