[edit] Plot

Gemma Palmer (Felicity Kendal) is a thirty-year-old woman who is trying to improve her position in the world. Gemma has her own flat, a good job and she lives with her boyfriend Danny. But then Danny has a fling with one of Gemma's friends, Gloria, and this makes her realise that she is being treated badly by her family and friends. She chucks Danny out, although she remains close to him, tells Gloria a few home truths and quits her job. Gemma then sets to recreate herself as a woman not to be messed with.
