[edit] Plot

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

The film starts with an airplane flying over Vietnam and then being abruptly shot down by what appears to be a band of rebels. The rebels proceed to raid the plane and one rebel reports to his commander that there is only food and medicine. The commander says bury what we can't carry and kill any survivors. The lower rebel says "But they are our people!". His commander proceeds to shoot him and responds saying, "I am the people" The next shot we start from is a prison lunch. In line is prison counselor Major Toliver. In line with Toliver we also see our first character Brophy remark about the lunch. At one table sit two black men, Butts (Tyrin Turner) and Jenkins. The next shot we see a group of Latinos (here we see our other character, Lopez (Demetrius Navarro)) sitting at a table giving Butts and Jenkins a menacing look. Jenkins (who ironically is the one who dies) says, "Those wetback motherfuckers are about to plan something". The reason Lopez wants to kill Butts or Jenkins is because Jenkins killed Lopez's friend Raul (which is probably why Butts, Jenkins, and Lopez are in jail). Lopez painfully remembers that memory while Butts and Jenkins take turns benchpressing and spotting the other. As soon as Jenkins turns around after saying that he is done for the day, Lopez stabs him with a smuggled knife. Lopez explains his reason saying "You take one of la raza and la raza take one of yours" Jenkins and a group of blacks briefly chase Lopez out of the rec yard and into the prison. Soon a riot ensues, calling the attention of Major Toliver and the prison guards. Lopez and Butts are separated from each other, with both of them trading threats, blow for blow. Major Toliver goes outside and tells Mr. Presscott that he will rescue his daughter if he can take some of the convicts. Major Toliver also demands that Mr. Prescott donate money to after-school programs and libraries for teenagers in the South Central area. He also says that he wants a full pardon for any prisoners that make it back alive. The movie then introduces us to the rest of convicts that are to be taken to Vietnam to rescue Mr. Prescott's daughter. Introduced are Monster, who is revealed to have killed a man and raped and killed a girl, all before he turned 14. Major Toliver asks "Why don't I do the world a favor and kill you myself?" Monster goes into a blind rage and is immediately subdued by the guards that were watching him. Then Vasquez is introduced, and she says that when she was a child her mother and father were both killed, and then she was "just handed around from pervert to pervert" She then goes on to explain that one day she couldn't take it anymore, and simply explained "I got an axe, and I just started swinging. And after I was done, there wasn't much left of him" Then Brophy (the prisoner from earlier in the lunch line, who is also an apparent skinhead and possibly Neo-Nazi) is asked why he should be allowed to go. Major Toliver looks at Brophy's record and sees that he has killed one Korean person and one Chicano person. Toliver jokingly asks "What no blacks, Brophy?" Brophy calmly responds that he's "Working on it" Toliver really doubts whether he will take him or not, but does anyways. Then Lopez is interviewed and Toliver gets very angry at Lopez for not looking at him when he talks. Lopez goes on to explain that he doesn't have much in the world, but he does have pride, that he'd kill for. Butts is interviewed and he is verbally asaulted by Toliver because he thinks that Butts is some kind of kid who thinks he's the sh** just because he's in a gang and he's black and young. Then we meet Lamb, who sees Toliver in a prison hallway mopping. Lamb stops Toliver and asks that he let him go with him to Vietnam. Then two guards appear and drag Lamb away, tellin him that he will be put in solitary confinement. Lamb fights them both of with his mop, apparently with some kind of knowledge of martial arts. Lamb says he worked at a Chinese resturant and he learned from the one of the old cooks. The guards tell Toliver that he shouldn't believe Lamb because he killed his own parents. Toliver decides to take Lamb anyways. All the prisoners are shown getting out of a jeep and stepping onto an airport. Major Toliver tells the "troops" that not all of them will survive and that they better be prepared. Lopez and Butts are sitting on the plane, menacingly staring at each other, with Butts finally saying that "just 'cus we here, don't mean the shit is over" Toliver and the troops arrive at an airfield in Vietnam and transfer to a chopper, where they finally get to their destination.
