The solar nebula is a term used in astronomy to denote the cloud of gas and dust left over after the formation of the Sun which eventually formed the moons and planets. The initial pocket which condensed from the original molecular cloud to form the Sun is known as the presolar nebula. The presolar nebula is believed to have condensed from the initial molecular cloud due to disturbance from a nearby supernova.
