The Software Association of Oregon (SAO) was formed in 1989 in order to foster an environment that fuels the growth of Oregon's software industry. Its website is www.sao.org[[1]].

The SAO's mission is to help software dependent companies Start and Grow, and to developing an environment into which companies and entrepreneurs want to Move.

SAO offers a diverse range of software and business development resources, networking, visibility, education, advocacy and member benefits in support of Oregon's software industry cluster.

Software plays a key role in Oregon's Economy with over 61,000 employees and over $5 billion in annual wages paid to these employees. In some markets, 7 jobs per 1,000 people are software-related. These jobs pay higher than average salaries; for every software employee, two other jobs are created in the economy.

The SAO's core customers are leading software-dependent organizations and their leaders who are working to create an environment that supports growth and success.

The SAO's headquarters are in downtown Porland, Oregon. Local chapters exist in Corvallis and Eugene areas as well. New chapters are being developed in Bend, Medford and The Dalles.

SAO members are more likely to be successful in their business due to their exposure to a rich infrastructure of people, resources, and knowledge which supports building an innovation economy in Oregon.
