Sodalitas Rosae Crucis et Solis Alati

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sodalitas Rosae Crucis et Solis Alati is a magical, mystical and alchemical Order. The name is actually the name of two Orders: the first, Sodalitas Rosae Crucis (S.R.C.) means “The Secret Society of the Rosy Cross” and the second, Sodalitas Solis Alati (S.S.A.), means “The Secret Society of the Winged Sun”. These two Orders continue the magical work and initiations of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn.[1]

The Order has both Temples in Sweden, Norway and the United States, and also has Circles in Sweden, Norway, the United Kingdom and Canada.[1] According to the Order's website, while Circles have no authority to initiate, they can provide the foundation for future Temples, and no initiation into the S.R.C. is required for joining an existing Circle.[1]

[edit] Intent, Purpose and Goal

The Order's website[2] clearly states the intent of the founders:

Our intention is to bring together some of the main esoteric streams and movements within the western hermetic tradition, under the apophthegm of the Rosicrucian ideal, as stated in the Fama and Confession: a brotherhood, working in secrecy, focused on a sincere inner development of its members, thereby affecting the world at large, without any interest of financial gain.
The purpose of the Order is the perpetuation and realization of the western hermetic tradition in this new era.

The Order's website further states that the goal of the S.R.C. is "to provide such a solid foundation that the candidate succeeds in full contact with his/her Holy Guardian Angel."[1]

[edit] Teachings

In addition to the traditional teachings of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, the S.R.C. & S.A. also integrates the initiations and mystical work of Gnosticism and Christian theurgy as well as the alchemical work of the Royal Path. According to the Order's website, the Order does not teach or practice Martinism but maintains friendly relations with Martinists.[1]

[edit] Leadership

According to the Order's website,[2] the Order is led by a Grand Council of the College of the Adepti. The College is composed of all members who have attained the 5°=6° grade, and this College appoints 3 members to operate each Temple for a one year period.[1]
