This article needs cleanup, better pictures, a lot more citation, and I suspect that parts of it are just made up and ought to be removed.

Contents

[edit] Older stuff

I think this article is hysterical. I mean read the criticisms. I laughed out loud.

Should discuss existence of socks with toes. --Daniel C. Boyer 18:33, 28 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Also perhaps the mention of garters before the advent of elastic. This page should link to stockings.

This article used to be brilliant, where did it all go?

[edit] An entrie for bjaodns?

quote "except of course in the Seychelles where if you do not wear odd socks, you are considered a traitor to the traditions, and you are hung upside down and shaken, until your brain erodes the top of your skull, and falls out" ,well?

I removed this quote after finding absolutely no references to this practice with a Google search.TrinkerBell 04:18, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Missing in the history section

When did people start using socks? Are all the people in the world using it? What about archeological findings? I wish there were answers to these questions. This article needs editing regarding tone.

Here's more info, for whoever will decide to improve the article: [1]. I'd be interested in more information on which materials are better at doing away with moisture. On a side note, the article as it stands now reads more like Unencyclopedia rather than Wikipedia. --Gutza T T+ 10:01, 7 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Merges

I have merged the socks link and socks bag articles into this one. aliceinlampyland 15:48, 1 February 2006 (UTC).

[edit] Good grief

What a mess this article is. I'll try to remember to come back and do some cleanup. --Tysto 22:25, 29 April 2006 (UTC) Good grief JayKeaton 10:03, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

Somebody should put stuff in about the different styles of socks. No show. Crew. Knee-high. Women's hose. Jenab.

[edit] not that much sweat, surely!

i really don't believe that the average human foot sweats half a pint per day. Could somebody please confirm? In any case, needs a citation.

[edit] Disturbing line

"As a warmer alternative to a snowball. "

And what does that mean, exactly? --Adam 22:21, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

Have you never had a sock war? Get some friends round, find as many (preferably) clean socks as you can, roll them into balls, remove all breakable objects, and have fun! -- Tivedshambo (talk) 08:12, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Possum fur?

I am finding it hard to believe that people in Australia, New Guinea and Sulawesi made socks out of the fur of small animals. This needs a citation.

[edit] Fetish section?

Is this necessary? Its more gross and immature then informative. 24.149.151.254 05:35, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Foot Urine?

Wow.. Wow..

Well, not unless someone (presumably you) peed in your shoes. All in all, weird.

[edit] Bulldoze

Okay, we're all talking about how bad it is. SO I am going to just rip out chunks of the article mercilessly. Sometimes total destruction benefits an article.--Whytecypress 16:42, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Merge

This is to discuss the proposed merge of sock and Toe sock. My vote: MergeMermaid from the Baltic Sea 23:35, 30 January 2007 (UTC) Mermaid from the Baltic Sea 23:35, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Sock City?

Saw this mentioned on Colbert Report and did a little homework. I was surprised to see absolutely no information about it here. A large percent of the worlds sock supply comes from Datang, a condensed specialized indutrial center located in China. I confirmed this on a few reputable sources such as http://www.nytimes.com/2004/12/24/business/worldbusiness/24china.html?ex=1261630800&en=dbdb1057ce2dc69b&ei=5088&partner=rssnyt

Relative info and should be included on the main page. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.192.249.112 (talk) 07:02, 14 February 2007 (UTC).

[edit] picture

does anyone else think the top picture is bad/gross? maybe it is just that socks are gross, but i think we can do better. Bonus Onus 20:52, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
