A relatively new area of study in modern sociology, masculinity is becoming important for many aspects of social analysis. Masculinity is one aspect of the sociology of gender and feminism. Patriarchal society is based on masculinity and its influence on society. Masculinity is also woven into the sociology of sport. Leading researchers in this field include Alexis Peters.
