Society of Operating Cameramen

Society of Operating Cameramen (SOC) founded in 1978, incorporated 1981 in California as a nonprofit organization, advances the art and creative contribution of the operating cameraman in the Motion Picture and Television Industries. Representing camera operators, camera assistants, directors of photography and other crew members worldwide. The society publishes it's semi-annual, Operating Cameraman Magazine. Since making their living with their eyes they found it only fitting their annual charity drive benefits the Eye Care Clinic of the Children's Hospital Los Angeles. Their moto: "We See It First".
The name has been officially changed to the Society of CameraOperators (SOC) in order to be less gender-specific as the job is done by both men and women.
