SOCASA

SOCASA (Sociology and Anthropology Students’ Association) is the association for the students in the department of Sociology and Anthropology at International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).
History:
Previously its name was SOCAFORUM. However, in order to extend the activities and scope, it was renamed as SOCASA and co-founded by the then President Abu Sadat Nurullah [1] and other members of Main Board in the year 2006, making it an innovative and active association for down-to-earth understanding of societies and cultures which are learned in books as theories.
Organizational Structure:
It has a Main Board consisting of President, Vice Presidents, Secretaries, and Treasurers; and five Bureaus, namely, Community Services, Economic Affairs, Sports and Recreation, Students’ Welfare, and Information & Education Affairs. Its current president is Azuzana Abd. Rahman, a third year undergraduate student from the department.
Activities:
The main activities done by SOCASA in previous years are: Community Services in different places in Malaysia, with particular emphasis on the Orang Asli (aboriginal people) ; Educational Tour to different social and cultural settings; selling Kerepek (dry fruits) to generate income, organizing SOCA Orientation Programme in each semester for the newly enrolled students in the department; organizing Sports Carnival, Movie Shows, and Annual Cultural Night & Dinner Party, etc. Occasionally, SOCASA assists the department in organizing different activities, such as Departmental Seminar for students to encourage their creative endeavour and to expose their latent talents.
