[edit] Why not?

Why can't we keep the comment my way?CAYA is long gone and even if he does come back it's vandalism. It looks extremely retarded.I have the issue in my attic right now it says #19.

That issue, by itself, doesn't show the peak. If you only had the January issue, you would have no way to confirm that the song didn't chart higher after that date. The March 4th issue is the one that confirms that #19 was the peak. -- ChrisB 14:06, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Disturbed Genre

In reverting other people's changes, some editors have removed my attempt to bring a compromise on genre until concensus can be reached. Namely, the removal of Nu Metal, which should be in the genre list thanks to it being stated in the article. I've posted yet another thread on the talk page about this issue, and I would appreciate it if you would join in the process of establishing a definative set of genres verifiable by references.

Whilst I certainly agree with your reasoning about them not being heavy metal, remember that without references this is original research, and hence cannot be used to enforce editing decisions. Likewise, my use of your argument combined with the fact some people think they are heavy to allow the alternative metal genre is also original research. Thank you for your help in trying to maintain a good article - now let's get references so we can finally stop this from happening on an official level. LinaMishima 07:56, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, I missplaced those comments to you. I appologise. However this does need to get sorted, given all the editing. Do I have your agreement to not revert if Heavy Metal and Alternative are removed, and Nu Metal (which is stated in the article) are added? I'm afraid a vote cannot by definition fix this - verification is not optional on wikipedia, we need hard references to prevent any more problems. LinaMishima 19:38, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
Thanks :) The irony is that verification probably isn't too hard - all we need is a few lines from a music mag. but it's very hard for a lot of people to accept verification that disagrees with their opinion :/ We'll get it sorted out in the end, I'm sure. LinaMishima 19:50, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Vandalism reporting

You can't "report" someone for vandalism. Instead, put one of the vandalism templates listed on Wikipedia:Vandalism on his discussion page.

Also, as a courtesy for other editors, kindly observe Wikipedia guidelines and sign your talk page and user talk page posts. To do so simply add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your comments and your user name or IP address and the date will be automatically added. For further info see: Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines. Thanks. -- Michaelas10 13:19, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Welcoming sockpuppets

You recently welcomed my bulk edit sockpuppet (NotACow). You might want to consider looking at the userpages of users before you welcome them in the future, since it's kinda silly (and really pointless) to welcome an obvious sockpuppet. Kelly Martin (talk) 13:22, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Long-Overdue RfA Thanks from Alphachimp

Thanks for your support in my not-so-recent RfA, which was successful with a an overwhelmingly flattering and deeply humbling total of 138/2/2 (putting me #10 on the RfA WP:100). I guess infinite monkey theorem has been officially proven. Chimps really can get somewhere on Wikipedia.

With new buttons come great responsibility, and I'll try my best to live up to your expectations. If you need assistance with something, don't hesitate to swing by my talk page or email me (trust me, I do respond :)). The same goes for any complaints or comments in regard to my administrative actions. Remember, I'm here for you.

[edit] Re:Reviews

Well, I'm looking for reviews that were written in August or early September 1991, before Nirvana got big. Thanks for the help! --La Pizza11 23:18, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:KristannaLoken2.jpg

You said: "I'm sorry but I haven't uploaded any image by that name User:0111 did"

Yeap, you are right, I made a mistake. I thought I removed the warning from your talk page. If I didn't, I apologise. --Yamla 01:52, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Smashing Pumpkins discography cleanup tag

Hi, would you mind clarifying your cleanup tag on the page? I personally agree with your tagging the page as such, but one of the editors keeps on removing it because there was no discussion of the matter on the talk page to point out the particular cleanup issues. If you could do this, it would probably prevent a potential edit war occurring over whether or not to keep the tag. Thanks! Girolamo Savonarola 19:33, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks man, but actually I was hoping that you could write something to that effect on the discography page, if it's not too much trouble. Thanks again! Girolamo Savonarola 19:56, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
Look, we've resolved the matter for now - let's just keep cool and edit the article. :) Girolamo Savonarola 20:36, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] OU Football edits

Thanks for fixing that. I'd been staring at it for a few days trying to figure out an NPOV way of re-wording it, but hadn't been able to come up with one. Guess I'm still too upset about the way the game turned out. z4ns4tsu\talk 13:45, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RfA thanks

Hey SOADLuver. Thank you for supporting my recent RfA. It finished with an amazing final tally of 160/4/1. I really appreciate your support. Cheers, Sarah Ewart (Talk) 21:09, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] TTU

Please do not delete userbox listing from Wikipedia:Userboxes/Education/United States. I am sure you did not intend to remove TTU, however, you should be more careful when editing long lists. --NThurston 19:32, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] !Votes in RFAs

Hi, SOADLuver, welcome to Wikipedia. I see from your contributions list that you recently !voted in no less than 17 RFAs in 50 minutes, offering opinions on the candidates. That seems very quick. Did you find you were able to do a sufficient amount of research on their editing history in that short time? Regards, Bishonen | talk 06:48, 20 October 2006 (UTC).

Haha my votes would be much more spread out but when I was going to vote 2 days ago someone on my IP was blocked preventing me from doing so.I just now got around to placing my votes/opinions on RfA. SOADLuver 06:59, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thank You Very Much For The Barnstar!

Just as the summary said, the portions of text I removed were copyright violations. --Rory096 02:10, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

Hmm, it appears you're right. However, there's no reason for the text to be there, as it's just a copy and paste of the text in an earlier section. --Rory096 02:16, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
No, just delete the earlier text if you do. --Rory096 16:32, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Esperanza User Page Award

Hi SOADLuver! You've signed up to be a judge for the Esperanza User Page Award! You'll have three user pages to examine. The user pages you get coincide with your signup number. So if you signed up to be a judge in spot 1 than you will get nominations 1-3. Pick your favorite one, and list it in the finalist section. After all 5 judges have chosen a finalist it's time to award them 1-10 points in the four categories:

  • Attractiveness: general layout, considering colour scheme and/or use of tables if applicable
  • Usefulness: links to subpages or editing aids, helpful information
  • Interesting-ness: quirky, unique, captivating, or funny content
  • General niceness: at the judges' discretion

Please remember to include Subpages in your judging criteria. See the Scores section on this page for additional information on your job as a judge.

Keep in mind that your scores are confidential! Email Celestianpower with your scores and final picks. As soon as all the scores have been tallied, a winner will be announced! Thanks. Daniel.Bryant T · C ] 12:50, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Time to judge the finalists!

Hello, SOADLuver. This is a quick message to remind you that all 5 finalists for the Esperanza User Page Award have been chosen. You now need to judge those 5 pages, awarding each one 1-10 points for attractiveness, usefulness, interesting-ness, general niceness and quality of subpages. Refer to the Scores section at the project page if you are unsure of how to score.

Once you have scored the 5 pages, email Celestianpower using the specified format. As soon as all the scores have been tallied, a winner will be announced. Thanks. Daniel.Bryant T · C ] 08:55, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] November Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: Admin Coaching (needs coaches!)
Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach.

Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

What's New?
The Tutorial Drive is a new Esperanza program! In an effort to make complicated processes on Wikipedia easier for everyone, Esperanza working to create and compile a list of tutorials about processes here on Wikipedia. Consider writing one!
A discussion on how Esperanza relates to the encyclopedia has been started; please add your thoughts.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
The last AC meeting (full log)
  • The list of proposed programs has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  • There is now a new program: the Tutorial Drive! Consider writing a tutorial on something you are good at doing on Wikipedia.
  • The suggestion of adding a cohesive look to all the Esperanza pages is being considered; join the discussion if you are interested!
  • In order to make a useful interlanguage welcome template, those involved in translation projects will be asked what English Wikipedia policies are most important and confusing to editors coming from other language Wikipedias.
  • A discussion of Esperanza's role in Wikipedia is being held, with all thoughts of all Esperanzians wanted!
  • Shreshth91 informed everyone that he will be leaving the Esperanza council as life is rather busy; his spot will be filled by the runner up from the last election, HighwayCello.

Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Far away s.jpg

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Far away s.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. When you use a generic fair use tag such as {{fair use}} or {{fair use in|article name}}, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Yamla 18:16, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

You said :"The picture is an album therefore it is fair use."

This image does not have a detailed fair-use rationale. Please see WP:FU and similar pages. Saying it "is an album and therefore it is fair use" is insufficient. --Yamla 22:21, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:G84784qgrv9.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:G84784qgrv9.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. [edit] WikiProject Rock music invitation

Hello WikiProject Alternative music member.
WikiProject Alternative music, in my eyes, has proved to be successful "improving the encyclopaedic coverage of articles relating to alternative rock", and improving their quality as well. One specific example I have witnessed is The Smashing Pumpkins article. The page has gone from a mediocre work, to GA status, to FA nomination. Only appropriate, as the Pumpkins are undeniably one of the most influential alternative rock bands on the 1990's and beyond.
This is the stuff I wish to achieve with the somewhat recently ressurected WikiProject Rock music. I hope to also attract attention to rock music articles of all sorts, and hopefully change some to GA or FA status. I invite you to come join us, and not only be a member of alternative Wikipedians, but the rockin' ones as well.
Rock on.
