[edit] Music Video
In the single's video, Duff's character plays a prank on her ex-boyfriend to tell him that they're broken up and that she is over him. After stealing his clothing on the beach, she spends several days anonymously sneaking pictures into his mailbox -- each depicting a random stranger wearing his t-shirt. His confusion turns to dismay when he receives the final package containing his shirt and a picture of Duff wearing a shirt that says, "you're so yesterday."
The video was filmed primarily in and around Venice Beach and Marina del Rey, California. It was directed by Chris Applebaum and was featured on MTV's Making The Video on July 26, 2003. It later debuted on Total Request Live at number 9 but reached the top spot after 27 days on the countdown. The video retired on October 8, 2003 at number 2. The video also received airplay on MuchMusic. [1]
[edit] Remixes and other information
The song is included on Planet Pop, Vol. 6, YTV Big Fun Part Mix: Reloaded, Disney Artist Karaoke Series: Hilary Duff and Duff's 2005 compilation album Most Wanted. Remixes of "So Yesterday" include the "Thunderpuss" remix and a dance remix.
[edit] Chart performance
The song debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart at number 53 in the 33rd week of 2003; where it stayed for 2 weeks. The next week, it dropped 2 spots to number 55 and stayed at 55 during its 4th week. It plummeted to 73 the next week but slowly rose to its peak of 42 5 weeks later, after which it spent 10 more weeks on the countdown. In Australia, the song debuted at number 39. It rose up the chart to its peak of 8, 8 weeks after entering the chart; after which sales declined and the song subsequently dropped out of the top 50, 20 weeks after its debut. It was the 49th best selling single of 2003 in Australia. [2]. It was also certified platinum in 2004. [3]. The song peaked in the top 10 of the charts of many European countries such as Netherlands, France, Ireland and UK.
