[edit] Plot
Kim Possible and Ron Stoppable have been summoned for a second time to help the toy-manufacturing tycoon Nakasumi, and foil an attempt by Shego to kidnap Nakasumi for Dr. Drakken. Despite this, Drakken is jubilant that Shego has inadvertantly brought back a sketch by Nakasumi for a potential new toy character. This completes just one more stage in an elaborate master plan of Drakken's to finally "take over the world," and "defeat Kim Possible once and for all." Two other stages in his plan that have already been carried out include the development of "Synthodrones", a more advanced model of the synthetic/artificial people that Drakken had unsuccessfully experimented with some time back, and a bizarre research project investigating the lifestyles of teenage girls.
For Kim, a teen-girl matter happens to be a growing concern for her this moment. The Junior Prom is approaching, and with the usual tauntings from rival Bonnie Rockwaller thown in, Kim is facing the realization that she has never had a steady boyfriend, and that her crime-fighting lifestyle is causing this. She is also troubled at the awkward possibility that her best -- but less-than mature – friend, Ron, might end up her only prospect for the prom.
Ron is concerned at the moment with other things that matter only to him. Bueno Nacho, the fast-food chain that has been his great joy in life, has come entirely under new ownership, and are implementing numerous small changes that are sapping away Ron's joy little by little.
Kim and Ron's separate feelings of woe end up intersecting. Ron strikes up a friendship with Eric, a boy new to their school. But when Ron introduces Eric to Kim, there is an instant and mutual attraction between them. Immediately, Kim and Eric are dating steadily and Kim is happy, while Ron finds himself increasingly on the sidelines of Kim's life. But all disagreements are put aside to contend with another crisis by Drakken.
To complete the final stage in his master plan, Drakken requires the most advanced "cybertronic technology" in existence. As it happens, Kim's father, James Timothy Possible, is the one scientist who possesses it, leading Drakken to kidnap him to get it. Although Kim and Ron find Drakken's lair and rescue Mr. Dr. Possible, Drakken and his organization have escaped to parts unknown, and the heroes are still unable to fathom any of his plans.
Bueno Nacho has introduced their first kiddie meals, which come with a small, toy robot-figure called "Little Diablo". The Little Diablos are a worldwide popular sensation, and children all over the world are grabbing them.
Kim realizes Ron's growing unhappiness and tries to have a heart to heart talk with him, explaining that things are changing and it's time to move on in life.
Eric has asked Kim to the prom, to her delight, while Ron decides there's no point for him to go. Realizing his own feelings for Kim during all these events, Ron decides not to tell her, valuing her friendship too much to risk losing it.
At Bueno Nacho to hang out by himself, Ron becomes incensed over another letdown and decides to phone his complaints directly to the chain's new owner. With Wade's assistance, Ron is connected, and finds the person on the other end of the line is none other then Dr. Drakken. One secret revealed, the restaurant's new manager, an agent of Drakken's, unleashes another. Like a miniature army, the tiny Little Diablo toys come to life and go after Ron. Eluding the pursuing Diablos, Ron bursts into the prom and tries to warn Kim and everyone else. He is immediately dismissed as crazy, and even Kim, nearly giving in to peer pressure and Eric's disbelief, almost dismisses Ron's warnings as well. But, remembering that she and Ron have been through too much together for a long time, and that she has experienced plenty of bizarre things in crime-fighting, Kim relents and returns with him to her home to investigate further.
His plans close to being exposed, Drakken unleashes a direct attack on Kim. Two Little Diablo robots in the Possible's house suddenly transform into giant, killer robots, fully armed with weapons. With help from the Possible family, Kim and Ron succeed in defeating the robot attack, but then receive a taunting transmission from Drakken, with Eric being held hostage.
Kim dons a new, experimental battle-suit from Wade, and she and Ron head for Drakken's new lair, Bueno Nacho's corporate headquarters. After a furious battle, Kim defeats Shego and finds Eric unharmed. But, Kim then learns that she had been viciously deceived, and that Eric, from the start, is actually one of Drakken's new Synthodrones. Kim and Ron are taken prisoner, and everything clicks together in Dr. Drakken's master plan.
The entire world is soon under attack from armies of the giant Diablo robots. Kim, deeply humiliated and depressed at how she had been played all along, is close to conceding defeat. Ron attempts to convince her not to give up, and reluctantly admits to his deeper feelings for her, to Kim's surprise.
Rufus, completely overlooked through all of the action and from Drakken's elaborate plotting, frees Kim and Ron. Confronting Drakken and his accomplices, a battle royale erupts as Kim and Ron fight to destroy Drakken's control systems, and Shego and Eric try to take them down. Eric almost succeeds in stopping the heroes, but an angry Rufus bites a hole in his foot. The synthetic slime gushes out from Eric's synthetic body, killing him. The control system is then destroyed, and Drakken watches all his plans literally collapse all around him.
Kim is acclaimed by the media for saving the world, and after Dr. Drakken and his accomplices are taken away by authorities, Kim surprises Ron by returning to the prom with him. At first confronted by stunned silence, Bonnie then attempts to lead everyone into mocking and laughing at the new couple. Instead, thunderous cheers and applause erupt, and Kim and Ron begin an embarrassed and awkward slow dance. As the dance goes on, they become more comfortable and smile at each other reassuringly. Towards the end, they slowly lean in and kiss deeply. Outside, the Middleton High School board reads, "THE END."
[edit] Trivia
- The kiss during the final scene is actually Kim and Ron's third kiss. The first was when Kim kissed Ron on the cheek when they were caught under the mistletoe, actually a sprig of parsley (A Very Possible Christmas). The second was during the Season 3 episode Emotion Sickness when Kim was under mind control.
- Christy Carlson Romano's new single "Could It Be?" is playing while Ron and Kim dance. This song, however, was dubbed over in the German version.
- Ron's worn out two stroke scooter is used as a running gag throughout the feature. However, prior to "So the Drama" Ron had a much newer and more powerful scooter.
- Drakken's henchman, Lars, was encountered by Ron (and Kim) only once before, in the alternative future in A Sitch in Time. So in the restored, present timeline, none of them remember ever meeting at all.
- The most lines and screen-time for Nacho Ned since "Bueno Nacho".
- The third appearance of Nakasumi and Miss Kyoko
- Recurring gag -- Ron loses his pants when he accidentally fires a pair of rockets mounted on his underwear.
- First appearance of Kim's experimental super suit later to be known as the battle suit.
- Some of the music featured in the movie includes "Get Your Shine On" and "Why Don't You Kiss Her?" both performed by Jesse McCartney.
- Highest rated Disney Channel Original Movie until The Cheetah Girls 2 was released.
- Like most feature film releases, the DVD of So the Drama added extended and deleted scenes.
- This is the only time that Drakken comes up with a multi-stage plan to keep Kim off-balance. He pays attention to every possible scenario except one --- Rufus.
- When Kim tells Ron, "I should've stuck to baby-sitting," she's repeating the same line Drakken told her in the pilot episode, Crush.
- This was originally the series finale but an outpouring of fan outrage of all ages led to to Disney's announcement of the renewal of Kim Possible for Season 4.
