Snuggle
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Snuggle is the brand name of a Unilever fabric softener sold in the United States. It features a bear as its mascot. The product is available in sheets or liquid (in concentrate and non-concentrate forms). This product is available in five fragrances: Blue Sparkle, Green Burst, Orange Rush, Pink Flare and Purple Fusion. A new premium sub-line, Snuggle Exhilarations, recently hit the market with a lineup of three new fragrances: Wild Orchid & Vanilla Kiss, White Lavender & Sandalwood Twist and Melon & Lotusflower Lift. A lightly scented, dye-free version, "Pure & Gentle", was introduced for a short time.

[edit] Mascot
Since 1983, the Snuggle Bear has been Unilever's mascot for its Snuggle line of fabric softener. The puppet was created by Kermit Love, the creator of the costume of Snuffleupagus from Sesame Street. The voice was originally provided by Corinne Orr. In a 2006 radio interview, Micky Dolenz noted that he is the current voice of Snuggle. [1]
[edit] Recalls
In 2001, 150,000 Snuggle "Teeny Bean Bears" included with the sales of the product were recalled because the pom-pom of their night caps could detach and pose a choking hazard to babies and toddlers.[2]
In 2002, 4 million stuffed bears distributed with Snuggle fabric softener were recalled when they too were determined to form a choking hazard to small children, as apparently the eyes and nose could come off.[3]
[edit] In popular culture
The Snuggle bear was the subject of a Top Ten List on The David Letterman Show on November 29, 1988.
In an episode of MadTV, Snuggle was parodied twice, once being included in the movie Freddy v. Jason (which became aptly titled Freddy v. Jason v. Snuggle).
In the January 17, 2006 episode "Faith" of the WB series Supernatural, Dean Winchester announces the desire to hunt down the Snuggle Bear because he believes it to be evil.
In the May 28, 2006 episode "Massage Chair" of the animated television series Robot Chicken, a look-alike fabric softener bear named "Cuddles" is repeatedly raped.
